Q1
Do you symphatize with the Joker?

I do symphatise with the Joker as I feel that all his wrongdoings are all the results of his troubled childhood which involved child abuse and self-mutilation as well as the challenges that he faced throughout his life. In fact I feel a deep compassion for him because of what he became was a result of his dark past. In my opinion, the reason he became The Joker was because he became insane as he had to recreate himself each day to cope with the chaotic flow of the modern of urban life
. This all resulted him in being the violent sociopath and a goofy trickster-thief that he was portrayed in The Dark Night. In the movie,he tells gruesome stories about how he acquired the scars on his face, the result of child abuse. The Joker had a normal life before. He had love for a wife and an unborn child but that all vanished when he found out that his pregnant wife died in a household accident along with his unborn child as told in The Killing Joke that was featured in the official DC Comics publication, Who's Who in the DC Universe.Imagine that happening to you. Obviously, you will feel distraught and overwhelmed with grief. That was what happened to The Joker, only he suffered a lot more.He lost the love of his life and soon, his child to be. Maybe that is why he became The Joker;he wanted to forget the grief he felt and to him the only way to do that was to kill people. In the graphic novel The Joker: Devil's Advocate, the Joker is reported to have killed well over 2,000 people. Despite having murdered enough people to get the death penalty thousands of times over, he is always found not guilty by reason of insanity. This tells me that he became insane because of what happened during his childhood where he was abused and exposed to self-mutilation as told in the movie The Dark Knight. In conclusion, now that I know his dark past, I understand why he became the Joker; he had a dark and very tragic past that he would never forget and that is the reason why he became the Joker.

Q2
What have you learnt from this lesson?
Text Color

I learnt that we should not judge a character based on its looks. Take a look at the Joker. He may seem to be the villain in The Dark Night but if you look into his character in depth, he is actually a normal person like you and me.It's just that he became a lunatic because of his troubled and dark past. I also learnt that different people has different characters. For example, Batman follows a moral code and does not kill people for no reason while the Joker is a sadomasochist who enjoys killing. Batman lives in the past with a solid background while Joker rejects his past and never tells his story the same twice.

Quotes
At a single strain of music,
the scent of a flower,
or even one glimpse of a path of moonlight lying fair upon a Summer sea,
the barriers crumble and fall.
Through the long corridors the ghosts of the past walk unforbidden,
hindered only by broken promises, dead hopes, and dream-dust.
-Myrtle Reed

In all secrets there is a kind of guilt,
however beautiful or joyful they may be,
or for what good end they may be set to serve.
Secrecy means evasion,
and evasion means a problem to the moral mind.
-Gilbert Parker
